Line Dancing

Ages 16 to Adult
Line Dancing– No partner needed! Plenty of exercise guaranteed. Learn the basics to many dances and you’ll be a pro. Move to the grooves and enjoy a combination of music styles. Meets Thursday Evenings

Pistol Safety Course

Learn firearms safety, law and familiarization of handguns and ammunition, how to handle a weapon safely, and laws regarding use of firearms in self-defense. This one evening course  will cover many do’s and don’ts  for carrying a weapon for self defense.  As part of the course those students who wish to later apply for a concealed handgun permit may take a written test, and upon successful completion of the test,  a certificate will be provided that will allow you to apply for a Virginia Concealed Weapons Permit with the local court. No gun ownership required.   If you have a gun do not bring it to class until the instructor instructs you to do so. Class open to any age 21 or older. This course meets one evening. 
 Time: 6-9pm.

Instructor: Perry Bartels is a 22 year police veteran and firearms instructor. He is a certified instructor with the Virginia Department of of Criminal Justice Services. Must register 5 days in advance of the course.

Tai Chi

Looking for a non-aerobic form of exercise which will improve your balance, reduce stress, and improve flexibility? Tai Chi may be the exercise for you. We are offering the Introductory Tai Chi Form
(9 Movements) in a 7 week series of classes.
This Tai Chi form is designed for beginners but will help more advanced students as well. The class will also include meditative breathing and Qigong, a series of powerful Traditional Chinese medical exercises to help maintain overall health.
Participants should wear loose fitting clothes & good walking shoes. For adults. All fitness levels welcome.
Location: Odd Road Community Center. Classes will be held Monday evenings 4:30-5:30pm
Session is March 5- April 23 8 weeks.

Boating Safety Course

Virginia now requires all operators of boats and
personal water craft to take a Safe Boating and Jet Ski Course. The Virginia Boater Education Course is
offered free at Poquoson Municipal Building, thanks to Poquoson Community Recreation and Coast Guard Flotilla 63- Poquoson.

Redew Furniture Painting Workshop

Ages 13 to Adult
Turn trash into treasure and learn how to paint or refinish furniture.
Learn about choosing paints,  best paints for
the job, and how to dry/wet distress the finish, using the Dewberry painting methods. Class will cover choosing color combinations, and different paint techniques. This course will also cover how to seal your work as well as how to use clear/dark waxes on furniture. All supplies will be provided and participants should wear a smock or painting clothes.

Cooking with the Cooking Lady
Taste, in the 5th Dimension.

Local business owner, chef, and caterer Lenora Garland teams up with her executive chef John Chesney, also a former military chef, to guide you into the 5th dimension of taste, Umami. Umami is a Japanese word that can be translated as meaning “pleasant savory taste”. Together they will guide you through the foodscape helping you understand umami and separating it from the other tastes: bitter, sweet, salty, and sour. The evening
will include demonstrations and tastes of foods from various cultures that are rich in umami as well as
introducing you to the idea of including a bit of savory in dishes you wouldn’t normally
think of as having this “5th” dimension of taste. Date: Thursday, March 1 Location: Municipal Building

Homemade Easter Eggs and Fillings
with The Williamsburg  Chocolatier

Ages 8 to Adult
In this class students will learn how to make fillings for Easter Eggs, roll them out
and shape them, and get ready for dipping into chocolate. In addition we will decorate
our eggs using royal icing and flower decorations. We will make smaller eggs
(approximately 1/4 pound each) use vanilla and chocolate buttercream fillings for
this class, and work with candy molds. Participants will need to tie back long hair,
bring an apron or small hand towel, water bottle and a LARGE airtight container to take home their creations. Please note any food allergies with registration. All Easter Eggs made will keep for several months, so these will keep for Easter on April 1! Cost $30.00 per person (residents) $40.00 non-residents
